Privacy Policy — The Happy Broadcast

Effective Date: April 15, 2026 Published by: Happy Broadcast, Inc., a Delaware corporation Contact: legal@thehappybroadcast.com

1. Introduction

Happy Broadcast, Inc. ("we," "us," or "our") operates The Happy Broadcast mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

By downloading or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Policy and the Terms of Use at `/apps/the-happy-broadcast/terms`. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

The App includes account-enabled social features, including Sign in with Apple authentication, usernames, public gratitude posts, reactions, reporting, and moderation workflows.

2. Information We Collect

2a. Account Information

If you create an account to use certain features of the App, we may collect:

  • a unique identifier provided by Apple when you use Sign in with Apple
  • a username you select
  • account creation date and timestamps
  • preferences associated with your account

We do not receive your Apple password.

Authentication is handled by Apple.

2b. Information You Provide

Display Name and Username. If you choose to appear on the community Leaderboard or Gratitude feature, you may enter a display name and/or username. This information may be visible to other users and website visitors where public user content is shown.

2c. User Content

If you use the Gratitude feature, we collect and store content you voluntarily submit, including:

  • text posts
  • selected background themes
  • timestamps
  • reactions associated with posts
  • reports submitted by users
  • moderation actions

User Content may be displayed within the App and on our website.

We recommend that you do not include personal or sensitive information in your posts.

2d. Information Generated by Your Use of the App

When you use the App, we automatically record:

  • Reading activity — which stories you open, how many you read per day, and the dates of your reading sessions.
  • Streak data — your current and best consecutive reading streaks, and milestone achievements.
  • Reactions — which reaction you assign to individual stories and gratitude posts. Reactions are generally displayed as aggregate counts.
  • Saved stories — the stories you bookmark for later reading.
  • Share events — when you share a story via the native share sheet or Instagram Stories. We record that a share occurred; we do not receive data from the destination platform.
  • Leaderboard metrics — aggregated counts of your streaks, reads, and shares used to calculate your community ranking.

2e. Technical and Device Information

  • Push notification token — if you enable notifications, Apple delivers an anonymised device token to us via Apple Push Notification service (APNs). We use this solely to send you daily and weekly digest notifications.
  • Anonymous session identifier — a randomly generated ID used to associate your in-app activity and certain anonymous web interactions.
  • Crash and diagnostic data — collected automatically by Apple and reported through standard platform mechanisms. We receive aggregated crash reports, not individual user traces.

2f. Public Visibility of Content

Content you post to public areas of the App may be visible to other users and may also be accessible through our website.

Your username and posts may be publicly displayed.

2g. Moderation and Safety

We may review, remove, or restrict User Content that violates our Terms of Use.

We may store reports submitted by users and related moderation decisions for the purpose of maintaining community safety.

2h. Information We Do Not Collect

We do not directly collect passwords.

Authentication credentials are handled by Apple.

We also do not collect:

  • precise or approximate location data
  • your contacts or address book
  • microphone recordings

Except where explicitly requested for app functionality (for example, locally saving shared cards to your photo library), we do not collect photo library contents.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information described above to:

  • Operate the App — deliver your daily story feed, track your reading streak, display your Leaderboard ranking, and restore your saved stories.
  • Operate community features — authenticate users via Sign in with Apple, support usernames, publish public gratitude content, record reactions, and process reports/moderation decisions.
  • Display public content — render approved/public User Content in the App and on our website.
  • Send push notifications — deliver your opted-in daily "Good news is ready" reminder and the Sunday weekly roundup digest.
  • Improve the App — understand which categories and features are most used so we can improve content curation and the user experience.
  • Ensure integrity and safety — detect and prevent abuse, spam, harmful content, and policy violations.
  • Comply with legal obligations — respond to lawful requests from courts or regulatory authorities.
  • Support current or future monetization features — including analytics, advertising operations, and any future paid features, with updated disclosures where required.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

4. Legal Bases for Processing (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, we process your information on the following legal bases:

  • Contract / legitimate interest — processing necessary to deliver the features you actively use (streaks, Leaderboard, saved stories, public community features, and notifications).
  • Consent — for push notifications; you may withdraw consent at any time through your device Settings.
  • Legitimate interests — app improvement, advertising operations, security, and fraud prevention, balanced against your privacy rights.
  • Legal obligation — where required by applicable law.

5. Supabase as Data Processor

We use Supabase (Supabase, Inc.) as our backend database and infrastructure provider. Your account metadata, reading activity, streak data, reactions, saved stories, push notification tokens, display names, usernames, and gratitude content are stored in Supabase-hosted databases located in the United States (Amazon Web Services infrastructure).

Supabase acts as a data processor on our behalf and is contractually bound to process your data only on our instructions. For EEA and UK users, transfers to Supabase are governed by Standard Contractual Clauses. For more information, see Supabase's privacy documentation at supabase.com/privacy.

6. Apple and Platform Services

Apple may independently collect device identifiers, app usage statistics, crash logs, and purchase history in connection with your use of the App Store, Apple Push Notification service, Sign in with Apple, and Apple Search Ads. This data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy and is not controlled by us.

7. Push Notifications

If you grant notification permissions, we use Apple Push Notification service (APNs) to deliver:

  • Daily reminder — a notification when your daily good news feed is ready (time configurable in Settings).
  • Weekly roundup — a Sunday digest notification summarising the week's top stories.

Your APNs device token is stored securely and used solely for these notification purposes.

To opt out: Go to your device's Settings → Notifications → The Happy Broadcast and disable notifications at any time. You can also manage notification preferences within the App's Settings screen.

8. The Leaderboard, Usernames, and Public Content

The Leaderboard ranks users by streak length, number of shares, or number of reads. If you choose to participate, your display name and ranking are visible to App users.

Gratitude content may additionally be shown on public website surfaces.

  • We recommend using a pseudonym.
  • Usernames and display names must comply with our Terms of Use.
  • We reserve the right to remove or modify usernames or display names that violate our policies.
  • You may request removal of your display name/username from public-facing areas by contacting legal@thehappybroadcast.com.

9. Story Sharing

When you share a story using the native share sheet or the Instagram Stories feature, the sharing action is handled entirely by your device and the destination app. We record that a share event occurred for product and Leaderboard metric purposes but do not receive destination-account data from the destination platform.

10. Analytics and Advertising

We use analytics to understand usage trends, feature engagement, and overall product performance. We may use third-party analytics tools and aggregated reporting dashboards.

We may also use advertising technologies in the App and website, including ad network SDKs and measurement providers, to deliver ads, measure ad performance, and maintain ad-supported features. These providers may process technical identifiers and usage events subject to their own privacy terms.

Where required by law, we will provide consent controls and additional notice for ad personalization and related tracking.

11. International Data Transfers

We are based in the United States, and your information is stored on US-based infrastructure. If you use the App from the EEA, UK, or another jurisdiction with data transfer restrictions, your information will be transferred to the US. We rely on Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission for such transfers.

12. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as necessary to provide the App's features or as required by law:

  • Reading activity and streak data — retained while your session is active and for a reasonable period thereafter to support streak restoration in the event of device changes.
  • Display names and usernames — retained until you request removal, your account is deleted, or we determine a violation of our policies.
  • Push notification tokens — retained until you disable notifications or the token becomes invalid.
  • Moderation records and safety reports — retained as needed for policy enforcement, appeals handling, and legal compliance.
  • Aggregated analytics — may be retained indefinitely in anonymised, aggregated form.

User Content may remain visible until:

  • you delete the content
  • your account is deleted
  • content is removed for policy violations

If you request deletion of your data, we will action the request within 30 days, subject to legal retention obligations.

13. Data Security

We implement reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including HTTPS/TLS encryption in transit, access controls, and secure database configurations. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

In the event of a data breach that affects your rights and freedoms, we will notify affected users and relevant authorities as required by applicable law.

14. Your Privacy Rights

EEA and UK residents (GDPR) have the right to:

  • Access — obtain a copy of personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — correct inaccurate personal data.
  • Erasure — request deletion of personal data ("right to be forgotten").

  • Know — what personal information we collect and how it is used.
  • Delete — request deletion of personal information we hold.
  • Correct — request correction of inaccurate personal information.
  • Opt out of sale — we do not sell personal information; this right is already satisfied.
  • Non-discrimination — exercise your rights without discriminatory treatment.

To exercise any right, contact us at legal@thehappybroadcast.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law (generally 30–45 days).

15. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at legal@thehappybroadcast.com and we will delete it promptly.

16. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the Effective Date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will provide additional notice within the App. Your continued use of the App after the updated Effective Date constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy.
