We are very fortunate to have people willing to give of themselves for others!

Michaluk donated her 209th unit of blood, setting a world record for the most whole blood donated in the female category.

The previous record was 117 units donated by Madhura Ashok Kumar of India, according to Guinness World Records.

She has been donating blood for nearly five decades, beginning in 1965 at age 22. Michaluk, whose blood type is the in-demand O+, said she likes knowing her donations are helping others. Whole blood can be used to treat patients undergoing cancer therapy, organ transplants, and diseases requiring blood transfusions.

"I feel like I have it in me to give," she said. "I can share it to people that need it."
